About Choices for Change Counseling

Nancy brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and leadership to Choices for Change Counseling. With dual licensure in Mental Health and Addiction Counseling, Nancy has been walking alongside individuals and families on their journey to healing for over three decades. Her academic journey began at the University of Montana, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work in 1992. She continued her education at Walla Walla College, earning her Master’s in Social Work in 1998. She became a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in 1993 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2003. Nancy is also specially trained in crisis intervention, helping people navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. But Nancy’s commitment goes far beyond credentials. She has served on the Ravalli County Chemical Dependency Board for 10 years, been a proud member of NASW (National Association of Social Workers), and spent six years on the board of the Montana NASW. She’s also an active member of NAADAC (The Association for Addiction Professionals) at both the state and national level. Since 2001, Nancy has been an integral part of the Mineral County Treatment Court team, working closely with justice-involved individuals seeking recovery. Hi, I’m Steph Ford-Sanders, and I’m proud to serve as a Licensed Addiction Counselor Candidate at Choices for Change Counseling. With a deep passion for helping individuals and families heal, I bring both professional training and personal commitment to the work I do every day.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a Master’s in Leadership & Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Addiction Counseling, and I’m currently completing my Master of Social Work at the University of Kentucky. I’m honored to work alongside Nancy Smith and our incredible team, supporting individuals through their recovery journeys with empathy, evidence-based practices, and genuine human connection.

As a counselor, I believe that change is possible for everyone — and I’m passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where people can explore challenges, build resilience, and rediscover their strength. Whether I’m working one-on-one, facilitating groups, or supporting families, my approach is rooted in compassion, respect, and a commitment to helping clients live more meaningful and fulfilled lives.

Outside of the office, I’m a proud mom of three, a nature lover, and someone who understands the courage it takes to step into recovery. I truly believe that our choices shape our destiny — and every day is a new opportunity to move toward healing.

Andi Kurpius has been an integral part of Choices for Change since 2021, where she began by answering phones and scheduling clients — and quickly became the heartbeat of the organization. Over the years, she has grown into a pivotal role, handling everything from administrative tasks and front desk operations to coordinating with courts and supporting clients, families, and community partners alike. Andi is the person everyone counts on: whether she’s speaking with judges or comforting mothers, managing the fine details of the business, or finding creative solutions when challenges arise, she does it all with grace and determination. What makes Andi truly exceptional is her deep connection to the mission of Choices — she’s not just part of the team, she’s part of the family. When she’s not keeping the office running smoothly, you’ll likely find her outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, or hiking across Montana’s beautiful landscapes with her husband and two amazing kids. Andi’s passion for both her work and her home life shines through in all she does, making her a cornerstone of Choices for Change.
